Equip your team with the skills and certifications to meet the highest industry standards. NCCER’s Rigger and Signal Person Certification Programs, developed with industry experts, is designed to enhance safety, validate competency and improve job performance. 

Rigger Certifications

NCCER’s Rigger & Signal Person Certification Programs includes assessments and practical exams that meet or exceed ASME B30 and OSHA 29 CFR part 1926 subpart CC standards. Each level builds on the previous one to ensure a clear progression of skills and knowledge. ​

Candidates meeting the requirements will be granted certified status for a period of five years from the issuance of certification.  

Make it the intro to the certifications and have it expand to the right.

Certification Requirements

Participants earn NCCER Rigger or Signal Person Certifications by:

  • Passing the program-level assessment
  • Passing the corresponding practical examination(s)
  • Submitting the Affirmation of successful substance abuse test completion
  • Uploading a photo to their NCCER Account.

Rigger

Entry-level certification validating basic rigging knowledge and hands-on skills.

Skills Covered:  

  • Proper rigging techniques and equipment handling 
  • Load weight estimation and center of gravity 
  • Basic signaling and communication 

Ideal For:  

  • Craft professionals 
  • New hires seeking foundational rigging skills 

 

Advanced Rigger

Demonstrating expertise in complex rigging operations. 

Skills Covered:  

  • Critical lifts and multi-crane lifts 
  • Load dynamics and risk management 
  • Advanced signaling and communication

Signal Person

Validates essential knowledge of crane functions, communication methods, and safety regulations.

Skills Covered

  • OSHA and ASME-compliant hand signals and communication methods

  • Safety protocols including hazard zones, boom dynamics, and emergency response
