NCCER Releases Spanish Translations of Core, Roofing and Concrete Construction Curriculum

04/20/2022 Press Release

The National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) is excited to announce that three popular curricula are now available to students in Spanish. This includes Core Sixth Edition, Roofing Level 1 Second Edition and Concrete Construction Levels 1 and 2 Second Edition. While previous editions of Core curriculum have Spanish translations, this is the first time that Roofing and Concrete Construction are available in Spanish.

Our renewed Spanish translation efforts are part of NCCER’s goal to help organizations train skilled craft professionals in an increasingly diverse workforce. Research indicates that 82.2% of roofers and 85.7% of concrete workers speak Spanish. Because many of these Spanish-speaking workers understand Latin American Spanish, NCCER uses Latin American Spanish for all Spanish translations.

NCCER partnered with the National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA) to develop the second edition of Roofing. The Spanish translation of Roofing Level 1 meets the Department of Labor’s standards for a time-based apprenticeship program. New Steep-Slope Roofer and Low-Slope Roofer interim credentials from the program provide additional specialized career paths to learners. The Spanish translation of Roofing Level 2 will be coming later this year.

The Spanish translations of Concrete Construction Levels 1 and 2 cover a range of specific content, such as the characteristics of concrete, using concrete as a building material and the process of curing concrete. Completely updated and revamped, the second edition features a highly illustrated design, technical hints and tips from industry experts, review questions and more.

Completion of Spanish Core Curriculum is required to receive any Level 1 craft credential. It features a new elective module introducing construction careers, more rigorous performance tests and extensive updates on math, hand tools, power tools and drawings. Completing this curriculum gives trainees the basic skills needed to continue education in any craft area of choice. This edition will be available in late summer of 2022.

In addition to our new titles, we have released a Translated Resources page on our website. This page includes instructor resources and trainee guides.

NCCER develops and distributes its curricula in partnership with the world’s leading learning company, Pearson, and ensures that they comply with the Department of Labor’s Office of Apprenticeship requirements for time-based training. Individuals who successfully complete these training programs through an NCCER Accredited Training Sponsor will earn industry-recognized credentials through the NCCER Registry System. For a complete list of Spanish curricula, visit NCCER’s Crafts and Titles search page and select the Spanish language dropdown.
