NCCER and HVAC Excellence Partner to Develop HVACR Education Resources

03/03/2021 Press Release

ALACHUA, Fla. — NCCER and HVAC Excellence are collaborating to bridge the skill gap in heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration (HVACR) education. The organizations are working collectively to improve the effectiveness of these training programs. Their vision is to provide comprehensive education resources that will enable instructors to produce the highly skilled technical and safe workforce the construction industry demands.

While all HVACR instructors aspire to effectively prepare their students for success in the industry, data indicates that there is significant room for improvement. Statistics from multiple equipment manufacturers, for example, indicate that over 70% of residential and light commercial parts replaced in the field, upon being tested at the factory, were found to have no fault. Over 40% of replaced motors showed no indication of malfunction when bench-tested at the factory. Lastly, nearly 85% of residential replacement of HVACR equipment is not installed in compliance with manufacturers published specifications.

HVAC Excellence and NCCER have already created many of the competency maps instructors need in order to teach the skills that technicians require upon entering the field. These resources were developed by assembling teams of subject matter experts from across the country, representing various segments of the HVACR industry.

Now, through collaboration, NCCER and HVAC Excellence will develop additional resources for instructors to become more effective in delivering the materials essential for a technician’s success. Several initiatives are currently underway which will be announced in the near future.

About HVAC Excellence – It is the mission of HVAC Excellence to improve the technical competency of the HVACR industry through validation of the technical education process.
