NCCER Publishes Updated Heavy Equipment Operations Curriculum

12/16/2024 Press Release

ALACHUA, Fla. – The National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) has published the fourth edition of its Heavy Equipment Operations (HEO) curriculum. The three-level curriculum covers the foundational skills required to safely and effectively operate a range of construction equipment.

The new edition includes important changes to reflect customer usage and market demand, including a new module about GPS/GNNS technology to improve students’ understanding of the most state-of-the-art operator tools and advancements. In addition, several previous modules have been combined and condensed to reduce redundancy. The curriculum updates were developed and approved by a group of experienced heavy equipment subject matter experts.

In addition to NCCER’s traditional level completion and craft completion credentials, the Heavy Equipment Operations curricula also offers interim credentials for twelve possible HEO career paths based on individual equipment specializations.

Enhanced digital coursework and interactive assets for Heavy Equipment Operations, 4th Edition, are in development and will be offered through the NCCERconnect online learning platform.
