Instructor Bios

Each of the academy instructors have extensive experience in the construction industry and provide a wealth of knowledge and quality expert instruction.

Dennis C. Bausman

Bausman is currently employed at Clemson University as a professor. His experience includes over 20 years of management responsibilities involving over 300 projects totaling in excess of $2.5 billion of construction with a project size in excess of $100 million. Bausman holds a bachelor's degree in construction engineering, a master's degree in construction science and management, and a doctorate in construction management from Heriot-Watt University. He has received teaching awards from Clemson University and nationally from the Associated Schools of Construction. Bausman is a member of the Panel of Arbitrators for the American Arbitration Association and the South Carolina Council for Mediation and Alternate Dispute Resolution.

Philip B. Copare

Copare has spent his entire career in the construction industry. He has worked on numerous projects during the initial phase of construction at Walt Disney World, various commercial construction projects throughout the state of Florida, as well as with bonding companies to complete projects out of state. He worked with Dade County Schools after Hurricane Andrew. He is president of Construction Services Enterprise, and has an extensive education and experience in the construction industry. He received a BCN from the University of Florida and a master's degree in business from Rollins College. He is a certified general contractor, certified underground utility contractor, and holds a salesman real estate license. Copare holds a Professional Safety Certification and is approved to teach the 10-hour OSHA Safety course. He is also an active member in the American Arbitration Association.

Gregg R. Corley

Corley is currently employed at Clemson University as a professor and has over 20 years experience in the construction industry and construction education, having taught in the construction programs at Clemson University, Auburn University, and Southern Polytechnic State University. Since 1989 Corley has provided consulting services to both residential and commercial construction companies throughout the southeast, focusing on implementing information technology solutions into construction estimating, scheduling, and project management operations. Corley is a registered engineer and a certified OSHA Construction Safety and Health Instructor. Corley is the recipient of the Associated Schools of Construction's 1995 National Teaching Award and the 1994 John Trimmer Award for Excellence for Construction Faculty. Corley is a member of the American Institute of Construction, the American Council for Construction Education, and the Timberline Users Group.

Roger W. Liska

Liska is currently employed at Clemson University as a professor and is the chair of the Department of Construction Science and Management. Liska develops and teaches curricula at the college level and is active in continuing education, research, and public service for the Clemson Advance Foundations for Design Build. Liska coordinates the national certification examination process for the National Association of Women in Construction and serves on the Policy and Skills and Knowledge Committees for the American Institute of Construction Certification Commission. He is also a Certified Accreditation Visitor and Research Committee Member for NCCER. Liska is the past president of both the American Institute of Contractors and the American Council for Construction Education and serves on the national boards of both organizations.

Jay S. Newitt

Newitt is currently employed at Brigham Young University as a professor of construction management. Newitt's experience includes being a featured speaker at over 320 seminars and workshops dealing with engineering and construction management, scheduling, and cost control. Newitt is most noted for his expertise in training and using the Critical Path Method (CPM) to manage construction and engineering projects. He is the author of Construction Scheduling Principles and Practices published by Prentice Hall. Newitt is also the past president of the Associated Schools of Construction.

Steven P. Pereira, CSP

Pereira is currently employed at Professional Safety Associates, Inc. as a consultant and president. Pereira provides safety, training, and loss prevention consulting services to contractors, businesses, and municipalities. Pereira's experience includes assisting numerous companies in setting up and evaluating their safety and training programs. Pereira conducts seminars for the American Society of Safety Engineers nationwide on the subjects of confined space entry and incident investigation. He also teaches the ASSE's Construction Health and Safety Technician Exam Preparation Workshop. Recently Pereira worked with industry representatives to develop an area-wide safety orientation program for contractor personnel working in industrial facilities. He serves on the NCCER and American Society of Concrete Contractors Safety Committees.

Tom Tansey

Tansey is currently employed at Tansey & Associates, Inc. and is the designated master trainer for NCCER's Instruction Certification Training Program. Tansey's experience includes that of trainer, management consultant, and instructional designer, and he serves as an adjunct faculty member at Clemson University. Tansey is a member of the American Society for Quality and the American Society for Training and Development. Tansey has provided management services to hundreds of organizations. Tansey is the author of such courses as the Instructor Certification Training Program, Instruction System Design, How to Conduct a Training Needs Assessment, and co-authored NCCER's Project Superintendent and Project Manager texts.
